Jullie hebben vast wel foto’s voorbij zien komen op mijn facebookpagina vorige week? Toch wil ik jullie nog graag vertellen hoe mijn privé masterclass in Genk (België) verliep bij Sarah Thomaere. Sarah is letterlijk een “master” in het vak voor permanente design eyeliners. De bescheiden Sarah ziet het zelf niet zo, maar ik kan je zeggen: zij is een toppertje!
Omdat het een flinke afstand was, leek het me verstandig om de avond ervoor in een hotelletje te overnachten vlakbij de afgesproken locatie. Dinsdagochtend 29 november was het dan zover! Na een goede nacht, een stevig ontbijt, uitgecheckt in het hotel heb ik de auto weer ingeladen. Met een temperatuur van -9 had “moeder de natuur” voor een flinke laag ijs op de autoruiten gezorgd. Als controlfreak had ik me overal op voorbereid, maar helaas toch de ijskrabber vergeten. Tja, dan moet je improviseren en maar met een bankpas het stevig genestelde ijs van de auto verwijderd…
Klokslag om 9.30 uur stond ik uitgerust en goed voorbereid, met tintelende vingers, op de stoep bij Sarah. Ik had er zin in!
Mijn model zou pas om 10.30 uur komen. En dat gaf ons de gelegenheid om nader kennis met elkaar te maken en wat ervaringen uit te wisselen. Een aardige vakidioot was mijn 1e indruk. Je moet je voorstellen dat iedere master in de loop der jaren zijn eigen techniek ontwikkelt. Zo heeft ook Sarah inmiddels haar eigen stijl voor het maken van design eyeliners en deze kennis draagt zij dan weer over op haar leerlingen tijdens een masterclass.
Toen het model er eenmaal was, leerde Sarah mij eerst een duidelijke “voortekening” van de eyeliner bij haar te maken. Met een dergelijke voortekening kan een klant goed zien hoe de uiteindelijke eyeliner wordt. Vindt zij hem te lang, te breed of te smal? Geen probleem, in deze fase kan dit nog goed worden aangepast. Ik vond dat (om maar even in de termen te blijven) een heuse “eyeopener”…
Na het voortekenen, leerde ik hoe ik met de pigmenteerpen een strakke contourlijn maak. Vervolgens leerde Sarah mij dit kader rustig en langzaam met een goede “strech” (lees spanning) in te vullen met pigment om deze handeling hierna nog een aantal keren te herhalen. Vrijwel zonder pijn en met een prachtige gitzwarte eyeliner rijker, verliet mijn 1e model de salon rond 14.00 uur. Tijd voor een heerlijke lunch en weer even bijpraten. Met “oren op steeltjes” hoorde ik alle tips en tricks aan.
Om 15.00 uur was daar mijn 2e model en toen was het mijn beurt! Nog iets onwennig, maar vastberaden begon ik met het voortekenen van de eyeliner bij dit model. Hierna herhaalde ik de handelingen en technieken die Sarah mij had geleerd. Natuurlijk onder (kritisch) toeziend oog van Sarah. Eerst het rechteroog, daarna het linkeroog. Rond 18.00 uur waren we klaar. Tijd voor de evaluatie en nabespreking. Weer een certificaat en een boel kennis in the pocket! Nog wel even 3,5 uur tuffen richting het Noorden van Nederland maar het was het meer dan waard.
Met een bemoedigend “Ik ben fier op u” appje van Sarah, reed ik moe maar voldaan, vol passie en nieuwe ideeën weer richting Assen. Het is belangrijk om in dit vak regelmatig bij te scholen. De ontwikkelingen en technieken staan absoluut niet stil.Zo word je steeds beter in het vak, en dat is wat ik wil!
